THE ATAKÖY COMPLEX
This mixed-use project in Istanbul, located between the airport and downtown, was one of the first of its kind in Europe, integrating a 700,000 square foot, double-anchored shopping center with two hotels, waterfront dining facilities and a 1,000-slip marina. The waterfront project was completed in 1988 for a then cost of $150 million. The project's components include:
- The Galleria: The Galleria, the first modern shopping center in Turkey, is located in Ataköy, a suburb of Istanbul. The Galleria features over 700,000 square feet of retail space, boasts 12 million visitors per year and features 134 retailers, including Lacoste, Levi's, Versace, Polo and Tommy Hilfiger. The center's amenities include structured parking for 2,000 passenger cars, business services, an entertainment center, conference halls, movie theaters, an ice-skating rink, bowling alleys and a food court. More information can be found on the web at www.galleria-atakoy.com.tr. The Galleria received the ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers-Europe) design award in 1988.
- Ataköy Marina: The Ataköy Marina, built in 1988, offers berthing capacity for 1,000 boats and yachts of varying size and dry dock capacity of more than 100 boats on land as well as state-of-the-art equipment and services. The marina was the first commercially developed marina in Turkey and only the second 5-gold-anchor marina in all of Europe.
- Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza: This water-view five-star hotel at the Galleria complex has 298 rooms, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness club and a sauna. The hotel also features 12 function rooms capable of hosting events for 800 guests during the winter and 2,000 in the summer. The hotel is located close to the airport and the historical section of Istanbul.
- Holiday Inn Marina: Adjacent to the Ataköy Marina, the Holiday Inn was completed in 1988 and is a four-star hotel with 173 rooms. The hotel features indoor and outdoor pools, function rooms and restaurants.
- Ataköy Yacht Club: Completed in 1988, the yacht club is a social club used by organizers of yacht races for social activities and sailing classes. The facility includes an outdoor pool, a reception hall and a restaurant.
